Period Pieces

I admit, the genre of period pieces in the film world isn’t the most appreciated by men. However it happens to be one of my favorite genres.

This week I watched “The Duchess” with Keira Knightley, Charlotte Rampling and Ralph Fiennes. I hadn’t seen it and was impressed by the sets and costumes. Even though I can’t watch Knightley play without thinking about Luke Millington Drake’s parodies of her acting.

But let’s take this seriously. The Duchess is “a chronicle of the life of 18th-century aristocrat Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, who was reviled for her extravagant political and personal life” (IMDb).

Georgiana, born Spencer, is indeed a related to Diana Spencer. She lived approximately 200 years before the princess of Wales though.

I recommend the film to all period piece lovers. It’s also interesting to watch in combination with “The Crown”. Please leave me a comment and tell me about your newest film discoveries, not necessarily in that genre.
